Borrow That Bag!

I’m a commitment-phobe. There, I said it. It’s not a relationship thing; my problem is that I just can’t commit to large purchases.

For example, I should probably own a home by now – at least my mother thinks I should. But what happens when I decide, in a few mere months, that it’s time to move to a different city, or (Mom, stop reading now) another country? Then I’m stuck with the large-purchase ball-and-chain. We all know what that leads to – resentment, bitterness and eating lots of Ben & Jerry’s out of the container. On the couch. Alone.

Although I’ve been trying to work through these issues, my Large Purchase Commitment Phobia (LPCP) occasionally extends to the “gotta-have-it” bag. You know, the one that costs double the rent of a Manhattan apartment, but WOW would it look hot draped over my shoulder, with those gorgeous new shoes and – oh, that incredibly cute dress that shows off my legs!

So I began to wonder, what’s a girl to do when she wants, or NEEDS, to have that bag but doesn’t want to experience the inevitable buyer’s remorse? The answer, my friends, is just a click away.
Bagborroworsteal.com is made for the fashionista with LPCP - and a job that hasn’t paid that first million yet. This Seattle-based company has started a revolution in bag borrowing. By signing up to become a member, you can rent handbags by the industry’s most sought-after designers for bargain-basement prices.
Go for a test drive with Prada on your next dinner date, or maybe YSL is more your speed for that weekend beach getaway. Prices range from $15 to $150 a week, with all price-points in between. Monthly rentals are also available. Some of the bags have waiting lists, but not to worry, they all make their way back to be handed off to the next lucky renter.
When I first went on the site, I felt like a kid in a candy store! I couldn’t believe that the Fendi Bag de Jour could be in my hot little hands in a matter of days…for just $119? Surely I had died and gone to Handbag Heaven!

Whether your vibe is vintage or couture, totes or clutches, bagborroworsteal.com has it all in the bag – and will deliver directly to your doorstep.

Of course, I can’t sign off without mentioning the website’s most recent claim to fame. The Sex and the City movie gave the company a huge shout-out when Carrie’s assistant, the adorable Jennifer Hudson, explained to Carrie how she could afford a Louis Vuitton handbag on an assistant’s salary -- rent, rent, rent!

So go forth, fellow commitment-phobes, and borrow to your heart’s content. No one will know your secret except for you and the UPS man. However, could you hide this amazing deal from your fellow fashonistas? I didn’t think so.

My mother in law is always going on and on and on about that site, but I tried it once and it was hell. You have to pay to even see the good bags, and then once you pick one, you're on the waiting list, then you have to wait between mailings, and the week it takes to get mailed to you you have to pay. I mean, I think if you're planning to need a bag for a special occasion or something, cool, but this really wouldn't work all the time, do it for a month or two and you could have saved up for your own nice bag, you know? I mean, i guess it's a good ida, though. depends on the person

i wouldn't care if it took a week or a month to get that bag - the pure excitement of waiting for such a magnificent beauty would be excellent enough
